Bridging the In-Between

The Glendale Metrolink and Amtrak Station is classified as a terrain vague. Sola-Morales describes the term in the following manner: “The relationship between the absence of use, of activity, and the sense of freedom, of expectancy, is fundamental to understanding the evocative potential of the city’s terrain vagues. Void, absence, yet also promise, the space of the possible, of expectation.” The focus of this design is to push out the public and community-oriented programs to the street side, and as a result, the majority of the ground surface is dedicated to the pedestrian. There is an overall language of peeling and manipulating the ground surface to create relationships between parking and other programs.
